In September 2017 (Friday nights 7pm-8.30pm) in our Bushido Douglas location we will be launching our dedicated adults only karate class due to the large volume of interest. This class will be a traditional karate class and will have a large aspect of self-defence applications. Karate-Do is for all ages and can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Adult classes will have a higher intensity which is why we keep the karate kids classes separate.
Places are very limited. Call 0876307006 for more information.
Once you become a member of Bushido Karate Club you will begin a life long Karate-Do journey. Our training is specifically designed to develop you both physically and mentally to ensure you excel and unlock your potential. Karate-Do training will teach you to increase your concentration levels, build self confidence and improve your health both physically or mentally.
Karate-Do is not a sport, its a lifelong martial arts and way of life requiring a lot of dedication and time. At the beginning when you join, you will start training once per week which is fine at that level, but when you start advancing in the grades the intensity will increase and the amount they will have to study will increase so you will need to start training more and more. Many of our students are training 2-3 times per week to ensure their karate is at the highest standard. This is what it takes to be a karate-ka. You get back what you put in.
We at Bushido Karate Club are primarily a traditional karate-do school but we also enjoy taking part in competitions. While this is not our primary goal, a lot of our students actively compete and we have several all-ireland karate champions in our dojo across all age categories and some of our students are members of the Irish National Karate team. Competition is not a requirement of being a member in Bushido Karate Club but we do encourage students to compete to test yourself in both kata and kumite.
Kara is the Japanese for empty while te means hand and do translates as the way, or path. So Karate-Do is The Way of the Empty Hand. It is a traditional martial art from Japan, in which the ultimate purpose is not to seek to win, but to work towards perfection of character, self-control and self-discipline by the accumulation of experience through training. It is also a form of self-defence using all parts of the body which, by hard and systematic training, become effective and powerful weapons. Karate-Do encompasses whole body movements which develop balance, flexibility, co-ordination, speed and power. This is achieved through the constant practice of the basic movements (Kihon) which, due to their variety and complexity, can be considered as a complete art form themselves.
Karate-Do training is very disciplined and we try and keep it fun and engaging. As many karate techniques require flexibility it is important to perform a warm up before training. This is done always at the beginning of the class with every student participating from beginner to black belt. The warm up is a traditional Japanese karate warm up and works on all the major areas in the body, developing flexibility and loosening out the muscles. Specific Traditional Karate-Do training then begins. If you would like to see some of our other Frequently Asked Questions click here.
